Whale-tails are like fingerprints in that there are no two alike. There is a long-running catalog of humpback whale-tales (flukes) in Juneau, each new one seen is submitted to a researcher from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and sorted and documented. Suzie Teerlink does all of this organization and she has given or gathered nicknames for each whale spotted off the coast of Juneau. According to www.juneauflukes.org this specific individual is called Viking.
